YouTube negocia con algunos de los grandes estudios cinematográficos la distribución por internet de películas alquiladas, un acuerdo que podría paliar las pérdidas que Hollywood registra en las ventas de DVD, informó hoy el diario The Wall Street Journal. "Si las conversaciones son fructíferas, el público podría, por una tarifa, ver por internet películas exitosas como 'The Hangover' quizá tan pronto como salga a la venta en DVD", según el diario.
YouTube, que pertenece a Google, lleva a cabo esas conversaciones con Lions Gate Entertainment, Sony, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer y Time Warner.
La idea es cobrar a los usuarios por títulos nuevos en el sitio de YouTube ya existente, y en algunos casos estos títulos podrían estar en el sitio el mismo día que se distribuya la versión en videodiscos.
Algunos estudios ya ponen películas completas a disposición y de forma gratuita por YouTube, pero éstas tienden a ser películas más viejas y menos famosas.
The Wall Street Journal añadió que "si bien los detalles varían de estudio a estudio, en términos generales los acuerdos permitirían que los consumidores vean por internet las películas con una tarifa como si las alquilaran.
"En algunos casos, las películas podrían estar disponibles de la misma forma que lo han estado hasta ahora: gratis y con publicidad", agregó.
El diario sostuvo que "personas familiarizadas con las conversaciones" han indicado que las tarifas de alquiler de película estarían alrededor de 3,99 dólares, que es lo que iTunes Store, de Apple, cobra por el alquiler de películas nuevas.
